These works are from a series of digital images called Cycle Engines. "In my last exhibition the Cycle Engine images were large, spinning, light images projected onto embroidered paintings on the walls of a darkened room; The images worked as experiential, kaleidescopic mandalas. They were sourced from my paintings on household linen and d'oillies which were embroidered by European women during the early years of this century. "Pattern and interweave, not unlike that of Maori or other Oceanic cultures, suggests linkage and continuum; sustained intuition; descent and kinship; and unity in Spirit..."(1) The underlying geometrical rhythms of the  painting and embroideries have been elaborated and further developed in digital form, linking multiplicities of consciousness from different times and places. In retaining the original circular d'oilly shape and the patterns of the embroideries the images are reminiscent of   Buddhist mandala, Polish paper cuts, and Polynesian body ornament; similar circular designs are found in many cultures."

Raewyn has used coloured light to unusual and celebrated effect, firstly
worldwide with Split Enz and later with orchestras, contemporary music
performance, jazz concerts, contemporary and experimental dance, and
theatre, in Australia, and in live performances internationally. She is
currently working in collaboration with choreographer Mary Jane O'Reilly.
